Hayes Valley is a longtime leader in San Francisco affordable housing, with more opportunity.
Since 2010, Hayes Valley has added over 550 affordable homes in our neighborhood, including in six 100% affordable developments. There are yet more sites better than PROXY for housing.
These photos depict just some of the 100% affordable housing already built or under construction here in Hayes Valley. Here’s what’s been built since 2010:
78 Haight St: Under construction! 100% affordable, 63 homes.
455 Fell St: Completed! 100% affordable. 108 homes.
365 Fulton St: Completed! 100% affordable, 120 homes
701 Golden Gate Ave: Completed! 100% affordable, 100 homes.
261 Octavia St: Completed! 100% affordable, 15 homes.
871 Turk St: Completed! 100% affordable, 100 homes.
Plus 50+ inclusive affordable homes in buildings at 555 Fulton, 300 Ivy, 388 Fulton, 8 Octavia, and more.
Why focus on taking away PROXY for only 50 apartments, when these nearby sites could each provide more housing? We should develop all of them, leaving PROXY as our exceptional public space.

Parcel E
Massive city-owned surface parking lot on McAllister. Twice the size of PROXY/Parcel K. We could build six stories of housing here and replace the city parking underground.
-
Parcel D/600 McAllister
This was supposed to be 200 units of affordable housing. Why did Dean Preston let that stall, just to focus his energy on PROXY?
-
170 Fell St
A city-owned building vacant since 1952 (!). Central, historic, and perfect for an adaptive reuse and expansion.
-
95 Gough St site
City-owned underused parcel. SFUSD has already expressed openness to using this for affordable housing.
-
DMV Lot
Almost a full block of surface parking lot. State-owned, even Dean Preston has advocated for housing here. Let's get that done!
